Color temperatures
 

     Kelvin

5500K to 9000K - Outside - sunlight (white)

 

4200K - Florescent

 

3200K - Inside - Orange

  1. Base Light - 50 to 75 foot candles.
  2. Key Light - 75 to 100 foot candles. Brighter than Base by 3:2 ratio. Apparent source of light.
  3. Back Light - Same brightness as Key. Separates object from the background.
  4. Fill Light - If used, it comes in under the base light to illuminate details. 50 to 75 foot candles.

The photograph below illustrates the colors of lights. The foreground is lit by tungsten lights in the 3200K range and the background is lit by ceiling mounted, florescent lights in the 4200K range. The foreground is a bit orange (The camera was white balanced so the images looked normal) and the background is distinctly green.
